Yes, we offer sample kits of all of our foundation and concealers so that you can find the perfect shade before committing. Our sample options can be found on our Sample Kits page here, and will come packaged in recyclable/reusable aluminum tins. If you are unsure of your matching shade, we encourage you to purchase a sample size before committing to a full size product.
We recognize ordering cosmetics online can be difficult, so we offer samples sizes of all our complexion products. We strongly suggest you order samples to test out a new shade before purchasing a full size. Sample sizes are final sale and cannot be exchanged.
Once you purchase, if you decide the product is just not for you, we offer a shade replacement on products or store credit for the value of the item (excluding tax and shipping fee) if you'd like to try something else. Our policy lasts 2 weeks (14 days) after order delivery. If 14 days have gone by since your order was delivered, we may not be able to offer you a new product.
Please send an email to email@example.com and we will give you instructions on how to exchange your item.
We use a post-consumer paper fill to pad our retail orders during transit. If you are living a zero waste lifestyle, please let us know and we will make sure that your order comes packed minimally.
In an effort to reduce waste all products come exactly as pictured on our site, no additional boxes or packaging here. All Pressed products will come in a case made of bagasse, a material made from the by product of sugar cane production. We recommend also purchasing a bamboo palette to store all of your pressed products in. For more information on the packaging and disposal of each product, visit the product's page and click the "Packaging" tab.
We ship worldwide, with the exception of certain countries. For more information on our shipping destinations, please contact us for shipping rates
If you can see veins on your inner wrist, you may be able to use their color to identify your undertone. Greener veins indicate a warm undertone, while blue or purple indicates a cooler undertone. If your veins look green and blue, you most likely have a neutral undertone.
Foundation and Creme Revealer shades are named after their product, undertone and shade depth. For example:
RN2 = Refresh Foundation, neutral undertone, shade level 2
CW3 = Creme Revealer, warm undertone, shade level 3
UC2 = Uplift Foundation, cool undertone, shade level 2

Our ingredients are about 75% organic. We strive to make our ingredients as organic as possible but will always choose fair trade over organic if we are unable to have both. It is important to us that every person involved in the making of our cosmetics is treated ethically and fairly.
We work closely with a green-certified, fair-trade manufacturer in China - where the bamboo is water processed and never chemically treated.
As bamboo is more readily available within Asia, we believe it is more climate-friendly (or sustainable) to have our products assembled where it is harvested, and then shipped to us.
Our bamboo supplier was carefully selected based on their FSC Certification. The Forest Stewardship Council Certification is a rigorous process, which includes an individual assessment and yearly audits.
We use a vegan-based carnauba wax that is derived from the leaves of the Copernicia prunifera tree. Different from the palm grown and harvested in South East Asia, this powder is extracted from the leaves of the tree and does not require the tree to be brought down. Some ingredients, such as Stearic Acid, are also palm-based and are supplied by RSPO-certified suppliers who are regularly audited. You can learn more about the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil here.
The mica used in Elate products is fair trade and sourced from suppliers who are active members of the Responsible Mica Initiative.
No, all of our products are free of nano-sized particles.
Yes, all of our products are 100% vegan!
Like all cosmetics, there is a safe life span for our products. The majority of our products have a 1-2 year shelf life as long as they are unopened. Once a product is opened, it varies anywhere from 6 months to 2 years, depending on the product. All life span recommendations can be found on our packaging.
All Elate products are 100% cruelty-free. We are certified by Leaping Bunny and Beauty Without Bunnies by PETA.
Our foundations contain zinc oxide, which offers a small amount of natural sun protection (approx. SPF 10). However, they should not replace your regular sun protection. We strongly recommend pairing them with another form of sun protection.
The wood in our pencils is Californian cedar wood certified PEFC (Program for Endorsement of Forest Certification). PEFC-certified wood guarantees sustainable forest management. A forest is managed sustainably when: The quantity of cut timber is never greater than the quantity that grows in the forest; After cutting, the trees will be replanted or will be helped to renew themselves naturally; Habitats for plants and wild animals are protected and all those protective functions that the forest normally carries out with respect to the climate, soil and water. The sustainable bio cap is produced with material that derives 55% from a renewable source (Biomass of American no-GMO corn). The remaining 45% is of fossil origin. This characteristic drastically reduces CO2 emissions during the creation and processing of the material, reducing the environmental impact.
Disposal: If your area has industrial compost, you can compost the cap. If not, you can dispose of the cap in your household garbage.
