Our Community

Our Social Impact Initiative

1% goes to our social initiatives, that support charities helping people around the globe. The other 1% goes to environmental initiatives, including planting one tree for each order we receive.

These donations will aim to:

  • Support the arts, education and community events.
  • Have an environmental impact.
  • Alleviate people in need.
  • Serve diverse community by giving initiative to every Elate team member in the selection of our beneficiaries.

In the past, we have donated to various charities which include: Our Place Society, United Way, CIBC Run for the Cure, Royal LePage Shelter Foundation, Music Heals, David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, and Victoria Women's Transition House.

Our team members are encouraged to present charities and causes that align with our values to be considered for future donations.

We encourage our team members to volunteer their time, and offer each person paid time off to participate in events that they feel will benefit our community. They can volunteer through programs organized internally or externally.

The intention of this program is to create community engagement opportunities for our team members that are meaningful, purposeful and help those in need. At the same time, we recognize that participating in these activities will also enrich and inspire the lives of our team. ‘Community’ is not defined as just local community, but may encompass a global perspective.

Charities We are Passionate About

Plan International

In 2019, Elate partnered with Plan International Canada to support their Because I am a Girl initiative. Every day, millions of girls around the world are denied their basic human rights – simply because they are girls. Launched in 2012, Because I am a Girl is Plan International’s initiative that supports the youth-led movement to advance girls’ rights and gender equality around the world.

We have committed 1% of Elate’s total retail sales for 2019 to support the Because I Am a Girl initiative. Donations are directed to programs that help promote gender equality and inclusion, and equip girls with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to reach their full potential.

One Tree Planted

As an environmental charity, they are dedicated to making it easier for individuals and businesses to give back to the environment, fight climate change, protect biodiversity and help reforestation efforts around the world. All by planting trees! Started in 2014, they have more than doubled the number of trees planted year over year. Fast-forward to today, they now work with awesome reforestations partners in North America, South America, Asia, and Africa who help them get trees in the ground to restore forests after fires and floods, create jobs, build communities, and protect habitat for biodiversity. Visit them online.

In 2018, we were able to get more trees in the ground than ever before - 1.3 million!

Sheldrick Wildlife Trust

In November 2018, we adopted our first orphan elephant in the care of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. Maisha was rescued at the age of 9 months, having collapsed after suffering from severe dehydration during drought conditions. Now 2 years old, Maisha is thriving at the Nairobi Nursery Unit in Kenya. In April of 2019, to celebrate World Save the Elephant Day, we adopted two more orphans. Dololo, a 1 year old bull calf, was found submerged in mud and unable to free himself. Larro, just 9 months old at the time of her rescue, was orphaned due to human-wildlife conflict. All three orphans live together at the Nairobi Nursery, along with several other orphan elephants and will remain there until they are old enough to move to one of the three Reintegration Units managed by the Trust.

In addition to the orphan rehabilitation project, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust patrols wildlife areas for poachers and traps, helps injured wildlife with rehabilitation, provides water relief, and offers wildlife education to local schools.

Elate Green Team

Elate Cosmetics places a great value on the well-being of the environment and the people we work with and serve.

We want our customers to find their beauty style without compromising quality or the environment.

The purpose of the Elate Green Team is to create awareness within our team about the effect our lifestyles and practices have on the world around us, and to make more informed decisions based on the knowledge gained through guest speakers and community events.

Our Green Team creates monthly initiatives, to incorporate sustainability and eco-conscious practices in to our lives and our community. By implanting and maintaining an Environmental Management System, we can ensure continual improvement of our environmental performance.

Current Initiatives:

  • Environmental Management System - monitoring waste output and setting yearly reduction targets based on results.
  • Reducing paper consumption during fulfillment/shipping process by finding alternative to paper packing slips.
  • Eliminating the need for paper towels by offering employee’s reusable paper towels and cotton cloths.
  • Introducing “Bring Your Lunch to Work Week” to promote a more eco-conscious lifestyle for employees.
  • Quarterly education sessions to learn more about our impact on the environment, and how we can lessen it through sustainable choices and initiatives.

Elate Social Impact Team

The mission of our social impact team is to find and create opportunities for our team to give back to our community through social initiatives and volunteer programs.

This team was established to bring more awareness to the social issues facing our communities, both locally and globally, and to provide our team members with a chance to expand their own understanding of the impact we can create as individuals to better the world that we share.

Our Goals:

  • Quarterly education sessions to learn more about our impact on the local, national, and global community, and how we can improve our performance through socially responsible directives.
  • Quarterly group volunteer opportunities in our community.
  • Bi-annual fundraising initiatives to support local charities such as food, blanket, or jacket drives.
  • Organize Elate’s annual Holiday Soiree, in support of a local charitable partner. Past recipients include the Victoria Women’s Transition House.
