Elate’s products are packaged beautifully and sustainably. We choose materials that are as low waste as possible. Our packaging is currently around 75% waste free. Products that contain recyclable plastic include our liquid products (Refresh and Uplift foundation, mascara, liquid eyeliner, lip gloss), lipsticks, and loose powders. We continue to make efforts to become a 100% plastic free and waste free company.
We choose aluminum because it is infinitely recyclable. All pressed products, including Pressed Cheek Colours, Universal Cremes, Brow Balms, Pressed Eye Colours, Pressed Powder Foundations, and Creme Revealers come in an aluminum pan. As well, our samples are packaged in 5g aluminum tins. Our aluminum pans allow you to customize what products you store in your palette - all palettes contain magnets to hold aluminum pan(s) in place. Once your product is empty, you can clean and recycle the aluminum pan, and purchase a refill to put in its place.
Our foundations and liquid products are packaged in recyclable glass jars. These containers can be recycled or reused when your product is finished, they are great to reuse in your travel bag!
Elate sources bamboo that is water-treated, making it good for your products and the environment. Unlike most timber, bamboo is a self-regenerating natural resource, meaning new shoots appear annually to ensure production continues after individual culms are harvested. Plus, bamboo requires minimal water to flourish. This creates sustainable supplies for the wood and cellulose industries.
All Elate refills, including pressed foundations, cheek colours, eye colours, Universal Cremes, Brow Balms, and Creme Revealers, will arrive in seed paper envelopes embedded with a variety of non-invasive wildflower seeds. When you have moved your refill to your compact or palette, simply soak, plant, and water your envelope to start your garden. This creates a closed loop (or “cradle to cradle”) system that results in a truly zero waste experience.
Our beautiful blend is non-GMO and approved for planting in Canada, the US, EU, UK, New Zealand, Australia and many other countries worldwide. All seed paper used by Elate is made from 100% post-consumer and post-industrial fibre, meaning that no trees are cut down to produce our envelopes.
Packing & Shipping Orders
Our shipping team works hard to ensure your package is shipped in a sustainable manner. We pack your order in size-appropriate boxes made from recyclable post-consumer material. Boxes are padded using a paper fill material called Geami to ensure your products are protected on their trip home to you.
If you place multiple orders, we are happy to ship them together. Live near Victoria, BC, Canada? Come say hi and pick your order up from our warehouse. Get in contact with a member of our Support Team for any shipping requests.
At the Elate Office, we believe the small efforts we make every day will make a big impact on the world. We strive to make decisions that minimize our environmental footprint. We turn off the lights when not in use, unplug appliances, and provide reusable dishes for the days we need to buy our lunches. We measure our waste outputs and set goals to decrease the amount of waste we bring in and out of our office each year.
We belong to the Green Business Association and are a Surfrider Foundation approved business.
Perfectly Imperfect Program
Every so often, we find products in our inventory that do not pass Elate’s visual quality standards. Rather than have these products go to waste, we embrace their minor flaws. Through our Perfectly Imperfect program, bamboo palettes and compacts, as well as a selection of other slightly less-than-perfect products, are available for purchase at a discounted price. We promise these items are still 100% usable and worthy of a place in your beauty routine! Products may include some discolouration of bamboo, dents, scratches, and missing mirrors, varying from piece to piece. All Perfectly Imperfect products are still usable and safe for use.

Good For You and the Planet
We choose ingredients that are good for you and the planet. All ingredients are 100% vegan and cruelty free. As well, Elate products are 100% gluten free and safe for use by celiacs. Our ingredients are around 75% organic. We strive for our ingredients to be as organic as possible, but will always choose fair trade over organic if we are unable to have both. It is important to us that each person involved in the making of our cosmetics is treated ethically and fairly.
We define a clean ingredient as a raw material that is cultivated or extracted in a responsible manner, and that is not harmful for your skin. We strive to use ingredients that are both nourishing and sustainable without sacrificing the quality of the products we create or the wellbeing of animals, people, or the environment
